Transitioning to the world of work is an extremely important and exciting milestone. However, for many young adults with autism obtaining and maintaining employment can present some unique challenges.
Neurodiversity covers a broad range of conditions with ASD alone affecting between 1 & 1.5 % of the world’s population. As our knowledge and understanding of these conditions grows, so does our insight. Neurodiverse individuals, including those with ASD, function differently, but that isn’t a bad thing, and can come with strengths of its own.
Over the last few years, more and more companies and organisations are recognising the benefit that neurodiverse employees bring to the workplace. However, for many of these young adults, particularly those with ASD, obtaining and maintaining employment still presents unique challenges.
In this session we will discuss strategies which help make the transition to employment as smooth as possible. We will focus on fundamental employment philosophies, covering areas such as the purpose and realities of employment, the preparation process, job searching, the application and interview process and beyond.
